“Have I Been Pwned?” is a free resource for anyone to quickly assess if they may have been put at risk due to an online account of theirs having been compromised or “pwned” in a data breach. A “breach” is an incident where data is inadvertently exposed in a vulnerable system, usually due to insufficient access controls or security weaknesses in the software. A user should just enter an email address and the tool will indicate which breaches the email was affected by and will provide a brief overview of the breach.
